Göran Hongell
Göran Hongell (1902-1973) was an artist and glass designer considered one of the pioneers of Finnish glass tradition. After studying decorative painting, Hongell became the first designer hired by the Karhula-Iittala glass factory in 1932. His focus was updating traditional models in serial production. Hongell designed art objects and products for serial production all in a modern spirit. His most celebrated creation was Aarne. The collection features the first single-stage stemware glass. The innovative design earned the Gold Medal at Milan Triennale in 1954. Iittala revived the popular glassware series in 1981.
